My favourite is Waterloo but it's close, only saw Mongol recently and I haven't seen Taras Bulba in a while and didn't remember the images, lovely stuff...
It's a really good video! I love Cavalry! reminds me some Great movies which are on my TOP 10, but I didn't recognize some or know them all... (the ones with Hats with feathers: which one? the cavalry men looks like the Australian Lancers in Boers Colonial War) thanks for sharing! (I've saved the link and the one to your blog!)
I think the one you're wondering about is "The Lighthorsemen." All the movie titles and music used are at the end of the video and in the YouTube description.
Wonderful find! I have goosebumps. I just got back from driving my daughter to her riding lessons. I often look at all the of horses they have and think, "5,000-10,000 charging at once." I boggles the mind.
As a grunt, all I was thinking was: form square! form square!
Always amazing to see how fast horses are galloping flat out, and they've got a lot of skilful horsemen who can ride and handle their weapons at the same time.
Onlyone I don't like is the charge of the Rohirrim in 10-deep phalanx. Realy cavalrymen leave plenty of room between ranks, like the Australian Lighthorse.
Now where's the Aqaba scene from Lawrence of Arabia?
Lovely compilation! I like it from an artisitc point of view as well. If you compare the movies from a similar period of time, it really show how much atmosphere you can create with light, colour and camera angles and how variations of them can create different moods.
The funny thing for me is... whenever I see scenes from "Gladiator" I always think "they had no stir-ups back then!". ;-)
At times I think Braveheart is a comedy anyway... Especially Gibsons Scotish bur! ;-) always makes me laugh.
BTW... I am not the only one to think so. Go to Youtube and look for "Yeoman warden at Tower of London part Ii of four" (sorry for some reason blogspot does not allow be past the URL) and go to 5:47! The rest of the clip and the other three parts are recommended as well!
Damn! I love cavalry too! Thanks for sharing, it's a great pleasure to look at those wonderful images!
ReplyDeleteMovie cavalry charge + sweet soundtrack = goosebumps. :)

ReplyDeleteWaterloo is great, there's a newer version of Taras Bulba that's pretty epic. It got me wondering what other movies that could have been included.

Ha! There's one local older historical gamer that all you have to do is mention "Braveheart" and you wreck his whole day! :)
