Drums... Drums in the Deep...

Well, there's definitely some sort of noises going on around here lately and a few renovations too.

I've been playing around with the idea re-joining the blogoshpere for awhile. The "Der Feldmarschall" blog tried a comeback in 2021 that lasted five posts and spawned a Facebook page. The FB page did alright, but this blog was dead and its audience long gone. Very clear it needed a major effort and reboot to hope for some audience participation again.

No need to retell the tale how the Internet and hobby sites, forums, etc. have shifted throughout the years, but this is always where my "hobby" heart was. Able to share my photos, thoughts, and dreams to those that would listen. I know this blog is VERY outdated in 2025, but part of me would like to try again. We'll see...

THERE, the Blogosphere... Did I ever tell you about the time...

The blog has actually been renamed a few times the last couple of years as I tried to settle on a future hobby home and direction. A number of changes in life too, gaming and otherwise, both probably needing a new start and generate some new memories.

'Twas only a minor skirmish... is the new title and vibe I'd like to go for. I've always greatly admired Michael Awdry's 28mm Victorian Warfare blog and it has definitely influenced my new look and potential content focusing on smaller narrative games and adventures. (Along with Commander McBragg above of course. ;-) )

One final note as I've bored you long enough. The new blog header banner is a silly photo I took a few years ago in my old war room/library and turned it into a sketch. Just for fun. :-)

The future is still a bit uncertain, but hopefully I'll see you again soon.

Cheers,
Jason

  1. Great news -I'm glad you've decided to blog again. I never understood why wargaming blogs fell out of favour. I look forward to the future posts. Good luck!

    1. Thanks Greg, I appreciate it.

I suppose it's easier for folks just to go to places like Face Book, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, etc. and have the people/channels they follow all in one place than keep track of separate websites and blogs.

Like I found out in 2021, It might be hard for me to get back onto people's radar and blog rolls once I've fallen off.

  2. It has been a very long time, Jason. Welcome back! Hope to see you return to regular postings. For me, blogging still holds an active role especially since other forms of social media have bypassed me and never held much interest. Blogging is still I viable format, I reckon.

For me, having you leave a comment on my blog was enough to get you back on my RADAR.
    Good luck!

    1. By the way, your photo-to-pencil sketch transformation is quite cool.

    2. Thank you Jonathan. Yeah, the sketch turned out pretty good (and still looks like me... mostly ;-) )

Others I tried certainly did not. Ha! I tried the same with some old HS band photos (our unis were very Napoleonic and I was a snare drummer). One made me look like Harry Connick Jr. They might make an appearance in some future narrative Sharpe Practice or The Silver Bayonet battle report. :-)

  3. Its great to have you blogging again Jason. Blogging numbers are definitely down, but there's still room for us in the wargaming world.

    1. Thanks Ray! Yes there is! Sad to see a number of old favorites on my blog list inactive for years (like mine :-/ ), but also great to see some classic blogs (like yours :-) ) still soldiering on.
